Welcome Home IRISH MORNING MIST!

When we sell a horse we hope it will be a match for life. Sometimes it is not. Sometimes priorities shift and there is not enough time to devote to the horse.

We love our horses and we want to make sure they find the perfect partner. Our sales agreement states that we will "assist in finding a new home for any horse you purchase from Bits & Bytes Farm" if for some reason resale becomes necessary. We mean this. Unlike most "horse traders" we are in this business for the horses—not for profit. If that means re-listing a previously horse sold —then we are happy to bring him to our farm and/or put him on our Web site.

Such is the situation with one of our favorite horses—Irish!

Irish's mom is a doctor with two young children and not enough time for her career, her children and a talented young horse. Dr. Rachel Black asked us to help her market Irish. She feels confident that we will only sell him to a good home.

You might remember, Irish was a favorite of our "Friend of Bits & Bytes Farm" Paula Gunnels. Here is what she has to say about "her boy" being home.

"My buddy Irish is back! I was very excited when I first heard that Irish was coming back to Bits & Bytes Farm, and now I am even more excited after riding him again! Today was the first time I have seen him since his return and he looks gorgeous. I went out in the paddock to see him and he came right up to me to say hello. My first thought was how athletic and muscular he is looking.

Irish and Paula's first ride.
Irish and Paula are at it again jumping everything in site!

I jumped at the chance to ride him again since I was dying to see if he had changed at all since he left. I was not disappointed. He settled right into the work and I immediately noticed the advancement in his training. He feels a lot more collected and supple and his mouth is so soft.

Since jumping is his forte, I was eager to see how he is doing. I trotted him up to a cross rail and he never hesitated to go over it. We lifted it up to a good-sized vertical and I asked him for a canter. He approached the jump, saw his spot and sailed over it like a pro. It felt wonderful to ride a horse with such experience. I hope Elizabeth allows me to continue riding him because I would love to work with my old buddy again!"

Irish loves to jump!

Irish Morning Mist (that's his full registered name) was purchased by Elizabeth as an unraced three year old. He is now seven and boy has he filled out. He is a gorgeous 17.2 hand gelding with good bone and a quiet mind. Carrying a crop is recommended because this boy is very laid back. Irish has a wonderful loving personality and he always wants to be the center of attention. Irish is suitable as a hunter/jumper or event horse. He continued his training this last year with a strong hunter/jumper focus on jumping and lead changes. This is a very special horse. He is showing great talent in and out of the arena for jumping and dressage. He place second in his first ever combined training event. Trainer Elisa Wallace had only schooled him once over a cross country course before taking him in the show.

Irish

Irish was our baby and boy has he grown. He is 17.1+ hands tall! He is starting to get broader rather than taller. Irish is very playful at the canter and a bit lazy for a Thoroughbred. Irish has a good eye for distances when jumping. He is not spooky and has a great mind for such a young horse. Irish already has done two hunter paces, two fox hunts and a combined training event where he won the dressage and finish second overall. He has grown up tremendously in the last year. He has really filled out and looks like an Irish thoroughbred import. He now loves to work and is really developing into an extremely talented horse. Irish loves to jump - but only if the fences are BIG.

Current Training

  • Currently going quietly under saddle in the arena and on trails.
  • Moves out willingly on the trails.
  • Crosses water and jumps natural obstacles including drop fences Jumping in the arena over four foot fences and coops.
  • Does auto changes
  • He is ridden in a snaffle bit.
  • Jumps four foot fences with ease!
  • "A" show hunter or equitation prospect
