“Diva” – Competition Quality – SOLD!

"Diva" - Competition Quality Thoroughbred Horse For Sale

“Diva” is a 15’2+ hh 2010 chestnut Thoroughbred mare with two white stockings and a blaze. This girl has chrome! She is clean legged, has no vices and is up-to-date on everything. She loves to train but is slow in the races. She has just 13 career starts with winnings of not quite $12,000. She has won only one race and had one second place finish.

“Diva” is well behaved in the barn and on the ground. She can be a little nervous in new situations and we feel she might need a more experienced rider. She will need a patient hand — but getting off the racetrack will help a lot. She is not marish and loves to be handled. She is a super nice mover and should be able to do any discipline. We will be posting video on YouTube soon. You can see this mare has a powerful hind-end that will suit her well for jumping or dressage.

“Diva” is eligible for the 2015 Thoroughbred makeover program. She last raced on February 15th and is still at the track.

She is Bargain Barn priced and sound for a second career. Priced under $2000! SOLD!

What factors into the price and why is “Diva’s” price so low?

Here is what factors into a horse’s price:

  • Mare vs Gelding – She’s a mare and most people want geldings.
  • Under or over 16 hands – She is under 16 hands but big in the barrel so she can take a longer legged rider.
  • Grey, Bay, Chestnut – Color order preference for most buyers. Small chestnut mare? God forbid!
  • How quickly does the owner want to stop paying for training? ASAP!

If you want an over 16 hand grey or bay gelding – pony up more money. Usually $3500 – $5500. Everyone wants that and the law of supply and demand says that if the horse is sound for jumping – that is what the market has determined is the current price range. If you find this horse for less – caveat emptor!

If you’ve been watching, you know that some of the best horses competition horses are less than 16 hands (anyone remember the O’Connor’s horse Teddy?). Mares may be tougher to train because they are smart BUT being smart also makes them tougher competitors. When you partner with a mare – you have a true partner.

As for color…it is not a determining factor in talent so if you are looking for a talented horse on a small budget…check out horses that match the list above. “Diva” is the perfect match for budget pricing (under $2000!). She will make a great show horse for someone without these silly prejudices. If you liked our last chestnut filly – “Knowing”, but could not act fast enough to get her…HURRY and call to get “Diva”.

Prices change based on what price the owner has set. We add a small markup for our services. Prices can go up or down based on how the horse is racing or how quickly the owner wants the horse sold. Most Prospect horses are priced under $5000 with the average being around $3500. Big sound geldings, grey horses and tall horses usually cost more — but not always. Small mares are your best bet if you are price sensitive.
