Bargain Barn

The horses in our Bargain Barn are on this page because they do not fit the requirements for our Prospect Horses at the Track. These horses are not at Bits & Bytes Farm. They are either at the track or at their owner’s farm. Usually they are older or have an old injury that limits their future careers. These are not “rescue” horses but they may not be suitable for a strenuous career. We work with lots of trainers and breeders who provide us with gorgeous sound Thoroughbreds ready for a new career. Often these trainers and breeders have a special horse they would like us to find a forever home for. That is the purpose of this Bargain Barn page. The owners of these horses will fully disclose the health and racing history of these horses so that they can find the right match.

If you have a very low budget, and don’t have to have a perfectly sound horse for competition, we recommend you do a search on Thoroughbred rescues. They have plenty of horses for low prices. Just don’t expect the same quality of horse we sell on our Prospect Horses For Sale page.

We research our horses and know the sellers and we support our buyers. Thoroughbred rescues work out of the lowest end tracks to save these horses from going to auction or worse. By the time a horse makes it to a rescue, it is usually because it is all used up and the trainer can’t get any money for it. Many of these horses can be rehabbed for a pleasure career so if you are not looking for a competition horse, please consider a rescue.

A FREE HORSE might be the most expensive horse you ever own. By the time you find out why it was given away, you may have spent thousands of dollars on boarding and vet bills to find out why the horse is not performing. Spend a little more and get a horse from a reputable source who you can verify is telling you the truth. If the deal sounds to good to be true . . . Caveat Emptor.
