What’s It Like to Ride an Ex-Race Horse?

OTTB Brew This aka "Brewster" loves to jump
Some Thoroughbreds are quiet enough for a twelve year-old to ride as Brewster demonstrates!

Its been busy at the farm. We have had lots of visitors coming to meet our horses and learn about Thoroughbreds. We’ve had visitors from Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia all stopping by in the last seven days.

Last night we had a visit from the Greenberg family. They are looking to purchase a horse for their oldest daughter and wanted to see what an off-the-track Thoroughbred was like to ride. Mom and daughter both had a great ride on our favorite OTTB – Brewster. See the photos below.

Trainer Kathy Duke on Brat Maverick
Get back into riding with lessons from Kathy Duke.

If you are wondering what it is like to ride an ex-race horse, schedule a lesson with our trainer Kathy Duke. We have partial lease/lesson packages available for adults who are looking to get back into riding.

If you have a talented young rider looking for an inexpensive competition horse, one of our Prospect Horses might be a match. Come for a visit and let us evaluate his/her skills.  If you purchase a Prospect Horse and want some extra help getting it started, we can bring the Thoroughbred to our farm for the initial retraining. Kathy and Elizabeth will help you or your child learn how to continue the training at your facility. We also offer boarding at Bits & Bytes Farm. Give us a call to learn more about lessons and boarding.

Many of the horses we place can go to a show almost immediately or do a trail ride. They are NOT: hot, crazy or needing to be let down. The Thoroughbreds we place are safe, sane and sound — we know this because we know the people we buy them from. Our OTTB Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbreds make great competition horses, family horses and sport horses.
