Hot `Lanta Horse Show

With Wings and Political Pull at Wilson Farms Horse Show

Who cares if the thermometer reads 106 degrees in downtown Atlanta? We’re going to the show! No wimps in this group.

OK. It was only 103 at the show on Saturday and the humidity was about 30%. We kept the horses and riders cool with lots of water and shade. It was a good chance to get some miles on our Thoroughbreds who have had little or no show experience.

Is it too hot to ride your horse? Read this good article by a veterinarian and do the math.

We loaded up the trailer at 9:30 AM and headed a few short miles over to Wilson Farms in Alpharetta, GA  for a dressage and combined test schooling show. It was crazy because all the horses were set to go into different rings at the same time! We had With Wings and Political Pull doing jumping and With Wings also did a dressage class. Bubba (Lynn’s Vision) and Andy (Detroit Iron) were doing two dressage classes each and Brat Maverick just went to school in the dressage arena’s with the mirrors.

Fortunately we had two photographers (but we still missed the winning dressage class of Bubba). We had lots of friends and family who came out in the heat to support the riders. And of course, we had our picnic with lots of cold fruit salads and ice cold drinks to keep us from wilting in the heat.

We were home by 1:45 and the horses were glad to be back in their insulated barn under their fans after getting a nice cool bath. A good time was had by all.
