Saturday was the perfect Fall day for taking a trail ride to the North Georgia Mountains. Dawson Forest is not that far from our farm and there are over 5000 acres of wooded trails to ride on. We loaded up three Thoroughbreds – one who had never been trail riding, and met up with two more Thoroughbreds owned by friends who purchased their off-the-track Thoroughbreds from Bits & Bytes Farm.
Five Bits & Bytes Farm off-the-track Thoroughbreds headed to Garland Mountain in North Georgia for a trail ride on the most spectacular day. The weather was sunny and unusually cool for a June day in Georgia. Classic Casey, Stormin in Style, Political Pull, Spot Run and Imatexan had a great run on the trails.
We had a fantastic day riding with nine Bits & Bytes Farm off-the-track Thoroughbreds at the In Unison Farm Hunter Pace. It was a great day even if it was a little windy. Our horses enjoyed the ride as much as we riders did. Who could not love galloping across beautiful fields of grass or …

Bits & Bytes Farm’s Head Assistant Trainer (that’s Trainer with a capital T), the Baroness Von River, has written up a new training note. We have placed the page of her latest training notes under the Off-the-Track Tales menu. Last night she assisted with the training of Spot Run and Popular Five aka Bo as they crossed the enchanted brook. Read More . . .
It was a beautiful Easter Sunday morning but it was a little too early for Monarch’s Reign to be up for a trail ride. He fell asleep on his saddle as his mom tried to tack him up in the trailer. See the photos of our ride and our Easter/birthday party that we enjoyed when we returned to the farm on our 2011 Outings & Training Photos page under Training Thoroughbreds.
Sunday was such a perfect spring day that we decided to take the Oliver’s new 4 Star trailer on a test run to Garland Mountain in north Georgia with their two Thoroughbreds — Political Pull and Spot Run. We loaded four more Thoroughbreds into the Bits & Bytes Farm’s 4 Star to join in on the fun. So Romeo, With Wings, Monarch’s Reign and our newest off-the-track Thoroughbred, Detroit Iron aka “Andy” all enjoy trail riding. We have a photo gallery showing the beautiful day on our new page 2011 Outings and Training Photos.
FLASH MOBBED by off-the-track Thoroughbreds! We had a wonderful trail ride with our Thoroughbreds on Saturday at our friend Julie’s farm in White, GA. After our trail ride and during our picnic we were flash mobbed by our Thoroughbreds.

We are into week two for the training of former race horses Spot Run and Imatexan. This week they both did trail rides and cantered with their moms. It is pretty amazing that these Thoroughbreds come along so quickly with their training.
Follow along with Spot Run’s Training Diary written by his teenage owner Katelyn. Learn what it is like to retrain an ex-race horse through the eyes and thoughts of a young rider. We have video of their first canter and first trail ride on our BitsandBytesFarm YouTube Channel. You will also see video of Imatexan on her first trail ride off-the-farm. She went to Garland Mt. with Classic Casey and With Wings. We had a great time cantering then all through the trails. More photos tomorrow.
